The 26th of June 1965 is a special date in FC Bayern’s history as it was the day the record champions were promoted to the fledgling Bundesliga thanks to an 8-0 victory over Tennis Borussia Berlin in the 1964/65 play-off round. To mark the 50th anniversary of that fateful event, four members of the team that won promotion visited the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt on Friday. Dieter Brenninger, Peter Kupferschmidt, Jakob Drescher and Rudolf Grosser related a host of fascinating anecdotes and also brought a new exhibit with them, the shirt worn by captain Adi Kunstwadl for the decisive match in Berlin.
Pizarro through to Copa semis
Claudio Pizarro and Peru are sensationally through to the semi-finals at the Copa America after Los Incas beat Bolivia 3-1 in Thursday evening’s quarter-final. The undisputed man of the match in Temuco was former FCB striker Paolo Guerrero, who scored a hat-trick on 20, 23 and 74 minutes. Bolivia’s late consolation was an 84th-minute Marcelo Martins penalty. Pizarro played 66 minutes of the contest. Peru now meet Chile in next Monday’s semi-final. The hosts prevailed 1-0 against Uruguay in an ill-tempered quarter-final.
