While the FC Bayern stars are on vacation, reconstruction work is taking place at their Säbener Strasse ‘home’. The project, to modernise and restructure the performance centre, has already been running for a week. The most significant addition is a dedicated area for health and performance diagnostics. The new unit headed by Dr Holger Broich will commence operations in time for next season.
New on the ground floor is a pool with lifting and running equipment for players on sports rehab programmes after injury. The sauna and steam bath will be completely refurbished, with a cold chamber to follow. New machines have been installed in the therapy and fitness area on the first floor, with additional offices and treatment rooms for the fitness coaches and physiotherapists.
Further investment to come
Most of the work will be completed prior to the players’ return from leave on 1 July, when the main training pitch will also be back in perfect condition. The process of milling off the old turf, sanding and re-seeding the surface is currently underway.
FC Bayern München AG is planning further investment in the Säbener Strasse facility, optimising training conditions and especially the medical services provided to the players and ensuring the highest European standards are maintained.
