Bayern in Shanghai: Day 2 reviewed

After a couple of niggles on the journey from Beijing to Shanghai on Sunday normal service was resumed on the FC Bayern Audi Summer Tour on Monday. Training in the morning was followed by a number of marketing events in the afternoon. Day two in Shanghai was rounded off with Audi Night where the whole FC Bayern group spent a couple of hours in a bar with a view of the impressive skyline of the metropolis. reviews the day.

Breakfast and weigh-in

The breakfast buffet was open to the squad at 07:30. The players then had to go for an official weigh-in.


Pep Guardiola led a closed training session on a pitch next to the Shanghai Stadium at 10.00 local time. After the warm-up routine the Bayern players worked on build-up play before Guardiola switched to crosses and shots. Javi Martínez was again sidelined by his knee injury. Douglas Costa (slight muscle problem) had a relaxed running session.


The team had lunch at 12.30 on the fifth floor of the team hotel.

Marketing events

The players went their separate ways at 14.00 to participate in a range of events with Bayern partners.

Audi Golf Tournament: Pep Guardiola, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Müller, Sebastian Rode and Sven Ulreich had the chance to swing their golf clubs. A welcome change indeed. Müller was ahead of Guardiola and Lahm in the rankings.

Audi Driving Experience: It was much less peaceful on the Shanghai International Circuit, the Formula 1 track in Shanghai, where Robert Lewandowski, David Alaba, Mario Götze and Douglas Costa were putting their feet to the floor in Audi sports cars.

adidas photo shoot and store visit: Manuel Neuer, Xabi Alonso, Javi Martínez and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg first posed for the magazine Men’s Health and then surprised a number of Chinese fans in a photo booth in an adidas store.

Allianz: Around 25 invited guests and two players from the Allianz Junior Football Camp met up with Thiago in the team hotel. The Spaniard was kept busy signing autographs and then he chatted to Joe Gross, the Allianz CMO.

Juan Bernat and Gianluca Gaudino proved to be popular with the kids at an event organised by the partner Henkel. The two Bayern players performed some tricks and tried to save shots from the youngsters wearing gigantic goalkeeper’s gloves. Mehdi Benatia visited Lufthansa staff, Thiago and Joshua Kimmich were guests of Paulaner. And at SAP, Jérôme Boateng and Tom Starke caused excitement for nearly 600 employees.

Audi Night

The Audi night started when the players returned from their appointments. The event was the venue for the team’s evening meal. After an enjoyable 90 minutes the players left at 21.00  - and Tuesday night (20.00 local time) is the time for the friendly against Inter Milan.
