Warm embraces and fond farewells were the order of the day at the Säbener Strasse facility after training on Thursday, as Pepe Reina dropped in to say goodbye to the players and support staff. After a single season in Munich, the 32-year-old keeper left the club a few weeks ago at his own request to rejoin Italian Serie A outfit SSC Napoli. “It’s great Pepe was here again,” Robert Lewandowski informed fcbayern.de, “he’s a really good guy and we’ll miss him.”
De Bruyne rated doubtful, Gustavo out
VfL Wolfsburg could be without Kevin De Bruyne in Saturday’s Supercup showdown with FC Bayern. The freshly-crowned German Footballer of the Year broke off training on Thursday with back pain and reported to the medical unit for treatment. Coach Dieter Hecking is pessimistic about the Belgian’s chances of playing: “It would make little sense given the way he was moving just now.” Brazilian enforcer Luiz Gustavo is definitely out of the match: “He won’t play,” Hecking confirmed. The former Bayern man is not yet match fit following knee surgery.
