Bundesliga restart facts and stats

Tonight at 20.30 CET FC Bayern open the 53rd Bundesliga season with a home match against Hamburger SV. fcbayern.de has examined the facts and figures in the build-up to the clash:

0
The Bundesliga has featured an official opening match since 2002. The reigning German champions have never lost it: the champs won ten of the restart games, with three draws.

2
Thomas Müller is the opening match expert in the FC Bayern squad. The Germany international scored the first goal of a Bundesliga season twice, in 2010 and 2014. No player has achieved it three times so far.

3
Bayern’s 3-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2005 marks the highest score in a Bundesliga opening match. A Bundesliga restart match has never featured more than four goals in total.

5.3
The men from Munich won all their last six home games against Hamburger SV, the accumulated goal difference being 32-3. On average FCB netted 5.3 times per match.

8
On Friday, Bayern will feature in the official opening match for the eighth time. The Reds have so far won six and drawn one, a 2-2 stalemate against Hamburg in 2008.

12
Hamburg are Arjen Robben's favourite Bundesliga opponents. The Dutchman was directly involved in 12 goals against the men from the north, netting eight times. He has not scored more often against any other club.

13
FCB are unbeaten in their last 13 meetings with Hamburg, with 10 wins and three draws. The last loss, a 1-0 reverse away from home, dates back to 26 September 2009, almost six years ago. Current boss Bruno Labbadia was also Hamburg coach back then.

50
Bayern’s very first Bundesliga match took place exactly 50 years ago. On 14 August 1965 Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and their team-mates took their first steps in the top tier at Grünwalder Stadion in a derby against TSV 1860 Munich. The Blues won with a lightning goal by Timo Konietzka after 56 seconds.

59
FCB have won 59 matches against HSV, more than against any other club except VfB Stuttgart, who the Reds have also beaten 59 times. That is the highest number of victories for one team against another in Bundesliga history.

101
FCB and HSV face off in a Bundesliga match for the 101st time. Hamburg versus Bremen is the only fixture contested more often in Bundesliga history, namely 102 times. The stats: 59 Bayern victories and 22 draws, with Hamburg only winning 19 times.

224
No other Bundesliga pairing has seen more goals (224) than clashes between Bayern and Hamburg.

250
The Bundesliga opener marks the 250th FC Bayern fixture at the Allianz Arena. Since the stadium opened in 2005 the Reds have won 76 percent of the games (188), with 37 draws and a mere 24 defeats. The goal difference in the Arena adds up to 640-185, FCB scoring 2.6 goals on average and conceding 0.7 per match. The highest scoreline the Allianz Arena has seen was Bayern’s 8-0 thrashing of HSV in February 2015.
