Bayern never gave up, battled to the end, turned the match round and won in the last minute, but the only thing that pleased Pep Guardiola about the 2-1 Bavarian derby victory over FC Augsburg was the three points. “We have to play for 90 minutes, not just 45,” said the coach after a below-par first half from his troops. Thomas Müller felt some criticism was justified: “We were a shade sleepy on the ball today.”
Reaction to FCB v FCA
Pep Guardiola: “I know it’s hard after an international break, but that can be no excuse. We have to play for 90 minutes, not just 45. Our body language wasn’t good in the first half, and our game was very, very slow. I hope we improve on that in the future. Augsburg defended very well, but we made a lot of chances in the second half.”
Thomas Müller: “We were a shade sloppy on the ball today. We still created plenty of chances but failed to take them. The penalty was a pressure situation for me. Even an experienced player like me gets a few butterflies when it’s a 90th-minute penalty to win it 2-1.”
Markus Weinzierl (FC Augsburg coach): “We played well for the full 90 minutes, we fought fantastically and did very well in putting our plan into practice. But we couldn’t see it through to the end. It was a good performance and we can build on it. We deserved a point. My lads were brilliant and I’m gutted for every one of them.”
