It was one of these remarkable evenings at the Allianz Arena. Table-toppers FC Bayern won 5-1 against chief competitors Borussia Dortmund, extending their lead in the table to seven points. “We're very pleased because we won against one of the best teams in Europe,” commented head coach Pep Guardiola after the match. Two-goal Thomas Müller spoke of a 'big point' against the Reds' closest pursuers: “We’ve sent out a signal with the manner in which we won.”
Reaction to Bayern v Dortmund
Pep Guardiola: “I congratulate my players, not only for this match, but for the last few months. We did very well. We had problems in the first 15 minutes and lost possession too often. But then we adapted to Borussia Dortmund's tactics. We're very pleased because we won against one of the best teams in Europe.”
Thomas Müller: “Dortmund pushed up as far as the half-way line. It was difficult to play as we usually do, with short passes into the gaps. It was a big point of course. We’ve stretched our lead to seven points, and we’ve sent out a signal with the manner in which we won. But after the international break we have to get going again. We'll get nothing for free. We’re in a good position and the players' mentality is unique. Everybody's hungry.”
Thomas Tuchel (Borussia Dortmund coach): “Congratulations to FC Bayern for their deserved victory. I think we started well, but even when we were strong, in the first 30 minutes, we didn't take our chances. Bayern took theirs later. We knew that we had to play to the best of our ability to compete. We didn't manage it. After the third goal it was over. We have to accept that we weren't good enough today.”
