Alaba wins, Thiago home and dry, Kimmich scores

Confirmed Group G winners Austria remain undefeated after nine of their ten Euro 2016 qualifying fixtures. David Alaba and his team-mates defeated Montenegro 3-2 in Podgorica on Friday evening. Marcel Sabitzer struck the stoppage-time winner in an incident-filled match after Marc Janko (55) and Marko Arnautovic (81) had twice cancelled out the home team's lead, handed them by Mirko Vucinic (32) and Fatos Beqiraj (68). Montenegro's Vucinic was shown a red card for dissent three minutes from the end, but Alaba had already been substituted after 82 minutes. The Austrians round off their qualifying campaign against Liechtenstein in Vienna on Monday.

Thiago and Co seal berth in France

Thiago was an unused substitute as Spain sealed their berth at the Euro 2016 finals in France. In a routine 4-0 victory over Luxembourg at Estadio Las Gaunas in Logroño, Santi Cazorla (42, 85) and Paco Alcacar (67, 80) each scored a brace for Furia Roja. Spain can no longer be toppled from top spot in Group C prior to their final match in Ukraine on Monday.

Kimmich contributes goal to win

Joshua Kimmich and the Germany U-21 team have continued their perfect start to European Championship qualifying with a second win in two matches. The FCB man started for Horst Hrubesch’s team in a 4-0 victory over Finland. A 4,675crowd in Essen saw Kimmich, who covered the full 90 minutes, make the score 3-0 (27). The remaining goals came from Leroy Sané (13, 90+1) and Davie Selke (16). Germany next face the Faeroes on Tuesday.
