Bayern made it ten wins out of ten in the Bundesliga and also wrote a new chapter in the history books with a fully merited 4-0 victory over FC Köln on Saturday. The record champions left the field as winners for the 1,000th time since winning promotion to the top flight in 1965. “A thousand wins is outstanding. All credit to our fans, players, coaches and staff at FC Bayern who’ve contributed to this,” Pep Guardiola said afterwards.
Reaction to FCB v Köln
Pep Guardiola: “A thousand wins is outstanding. All credit to our fans, players, coaches and staff at FC Bayern who’ve contributed to this. We coaches know just how hard it is to achieve wins. 1,000 shows how big this club is. I’m proud to be Bayern Munich coach. The game was tough because we had so little space, passing to the centre was almost impossible. We wanted to get the ball out wide as fast as possible, look for the one-on-ones and cross, cross and cross again. We really needed the first goal.”
Arjen Robben: “Köln pulled ten men back and defended very, very deep. The first goal was crucial. And if you then go in at half-time 2-0 up, it’s looking good.”
Peter Stöger (FC Köln coach): “The better team deservedly won today. I think there’s no question we could all see a gulf in class between the teams today. We tried to make it difficult for them and close down the space without resorting to foul play. The only thing that bothers me is that we had three or four situations on the break in the first half but went at it with no conviction at all. We congratulate FC Bayern on their 1,000 victory.”
