Training in Wolfsburg, then flight home

There was not much time to enjoy the victory: After the 3-1 gala in Wolfsburg the Bavarians had to prepare for Friday's match in Frankfurt, so the Reds completed a training session on Wednesday morning. The starting XI shook off the tiredness with cycling. Others, like Arjen Robben, Arturo Vidal and Mehdi Benatia worked out on a pitch adjacent to the Volkswagen Arena in foggy autumn weather. “We have to quickly regain our strength for Friday,” said Robben. The team returned to Munich in the early afternoon.

Training at Säbener Strasse too

While 18 Bayern pros were still in Wolfsburg the other players reported to the training ground at Säbener Strasse. Tom Starke completed endurance runs, coordination and strength drills and worked out with the ball. Sebastian Rode had a regenerative running session followed by stability exercises. Holger Badstuber and Franck Ribéry were busy in the performance centre.

Top TV ratings for FCB

Tuesday evening's cup clash attracted high viewing figures. 8.06 million households watched the match live on state broadcaster ARD, a market share of 25.1 percent. 300,000 fans watched the 3-1 victory on pay TV channel Sky.

Arsenal knocked out of League Cup

Whereas the men from Munich were successful in their cup mission, Arsenal were knocked out of a cup competition. FCB's next Champions League opponents lost 3-0 away to second division Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup Round of 16. Ross Wallace (28), Lucas Joao (40) and Sam Hutchinson (52) scored for the outsiders. Arguably even worse for the North London pros, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott had to be subbed off in the first half due to injuries.
