Bayern drawn at home to Darmstadt

Bayern have been handed a tricky but manageable task in the last sixteen of the DFB Cup after the competition’s record winners were handed a home tie against Bundesliga rivals SV Darmstadt 98 in Sunday evening’s draw. The Bavarians would have preferred a derby against 1860 München in the Round of 16, but special guest Vanessa Mai drew another thrilling duel for the record cup winners.

Bayern and Darmstadt have never faced off in the DFB Cup. The last time the two sides crossed swords was in the Bundesliga six weeks ago, FCB winning 3-0 away. The overall record is clearly in favour of the Reds with seven wins, one defeat and one draw.

The men from Hesse, lying 13th in the table, qualified for the last sixteen with a 5-0 thrashing of fourth division Erndtebrück and a 2-1 victory over Hannover. Bayern downed fifth division Nöttingen and VfL Wolfsburg in the first two rounds, both by a 3-1 scoreline.

The Round of 16 ties will be played on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th December this year. The final takes place at Berlin’s famous Olympic Stadium on 21 May 2016.
