Benatia through despite defeat

Morocco are through to the group stages of African qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Following a 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in the second preliminary round, a 1-0 defeat in Sunday’s return was enough for the national team led by FCB defender Mehdi Benatia to progress to the next stage. Starting in October next year, 20 nations play in five groups to determine Africa’s five representatives at the 2018 tournament.
