FC Bayern ran up a 1-0 victory over Hannover in the last match before the winter break and extended their lead at the top of the standings to eight points. Despite a long injury roster the last trip of the year was another success story. “It’s a great feeling,” commented match-winner Thomas Müller after the final whistle.
Reaction to Hannover v Bayern
Pep Guardiola: “A huge compliment to my players. They've done a superb job throughout the year – in the Bundesliga, in the Champions League and in the cup. In the last few weeks we've only had few players. Given our long injury list, we primarily wanted to control the game today.”
Thomas Müller: “We knew we wouldn't get the points for free. It was a last effort, we didn't have many men. It wasn't a goal fest, but it’s a great feeling to give everything once more and get rewarded for it. Respect to the lads!”
Manuel Neuer: “It would have been easier for us if we’d taken our chances in the first half. We're happy about the three points.”
Christian Schulz (Hannover captain, gave away the penalty): “The ball was deflected a little bit and changed direction. I wanted to head the ball but unfortunately it didn't work out. Obviously, the way it happened looks a bit silly of course.”
Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover keeper): “To a certain extent we showed we're able to play good football, but we lack consistency.”
