It was a tough challenge for Bayern in their last Bundesliga home match in 2015. Thanks to a much improved performance in the second half the German record champions beat promoted FC Ingolstadt 2-0, securing the fifth 'autumn championship' in a row. “Today we encountered the best team we've been up against so far,” commented FCB head coach Pep Guardiola after the victory in the Bavarian derby.
Reaction to Bayern v Ingolstadt
Pep Guardiola: “A huge compliment to my team, but also to Ralph [Hasenhüttl] and Ingolstadt for the bold display. Today we encountered the best team we've been up against so far this season. We've had problems with our build-up play for a long time, but at some point it improved, in part because of Thiago. In the end our quality prevailed.”
Philipp Lahm: “A huge compliment to Ingolstadt, who played with great courage. They put us under pressure from the beginning. We didn't play with enough energy. That can lead to a first half like the one we’ve just seen. But we can learn from that. We always have to approach a match with energy and willingness. Then we can cause problems for all our opponents. We're struggling with a long injury roster and can’t rotate as we'd like to, but that's no excuse.”
Ralph Hasenhüttl (Ingolstadt coach): “It was a highly interesting match for the crowd. We did everything right and executed everything we had planned until the first goal. We played very boldly and always attacked. We succeeded at causing problems for our opponents. My team turned in a fantastic display. I think we've earned ourselves some respect today.”
