FC Bayern are number one in China in terms of digital activities. Confirmation of this prestigious achievement comes from the China Digital Football Index “Red Card”, a study by the Shanghai-based Mailman Group. The German record champions scored 298 points, outperforming the likes of Manchester United (286), Liverpool (282) and Real Madrid (280).
The study shows that FC Bayern's international efforts have quickly come to fruition. Last summer FCB went on a major pre-season tour to China. In nine days the men from Munich travelled to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, playing exhibition friendlies against FC Valencia, Inter Milan and Guangzhou Evergrande.
At the time FC Bayern launched a new Chinese website maintained by a local editorial team, a Chinese app, an account on YouKu, the Chinese counterpart of YouTube, and an online shop on Tmall for official merchandising products. In addition, FCB entered partnerships with China's biggest TV station CCTV and the sports portal Hupu.
The Mailman Group in Shanghai is one of the leading sports marketing consultants in China. The China Digital Football Index study, conducted for the fifth time, examines the digital activities of European football clubs in China.
