FC Augsburg have often posed a tough challenge for Munich in recent matches, but Sunday's edition of the Bavarian derby was relatively plain sailing for FCB. “A huge compliment to the team. I know how hard it is to win in Augsburg,” a satisfied Pep Guardiola commented on the display, which he saw as a marker laid down for the unlucky Holger Badstuber, who has suffered yet another serious injury.
Reaction to Augsburg v Bayern
Pep Guardiola: “A huge compliment to the team. I know how hard it is to win in Augsburg. In the first five minutes we didn't press well high up the field, but we played very well after that. We're pleased that we've won this game, especially for Holger.
Philipp Lahm: “Our coaching staff have prepared us very well once again. We were very, very good in defence – without any recognised centre-backs. After Holger's injury the situation is very difficult for us, but it isn't new. It's just a great pity.”
Markus Weinzierl (Augsburg coach): “It was a deserved victory. Bayern's individual, world class made the difference. We rotated the forwards this time. Of course some gaps opened up, and Bayern made ruthless use of it. There are many others who will also lose against Bayern.”
Paul Verhaegh (Augsburg captain): “It's incredibly difficult against a team so strong, so stable. The difference was evident today. We weren't able to take any points. But these aren't the matches in which we have to take the points we need.
Philipp Max (Augsburg): “At the beginning we did fairly well and didn't allow many chances, apart from the first goal. We can't be satisfied with the result, but we can be with our attitude.
