Badstuber 'defiant and full of optimism'

24 hours after his latest injury blow Holger Badstuber is already looking to the future. The centre-back is “defiant and full of optimism,” commented sporting director Matthias Sammer shortly before the Bundesliga match between FC Augsburg and FC Bayern on Sunday afternoon. “The op was a success. He's doing well given the circumstances,” reported Sammer, and clarified how Badstuber sustained a fracture of his ankle: “Holger got stuck in the turf. One unlucky movement, and that was that.”

Greetings from the team

A nice gesture in the match away to Augsburg! When they stepped out onto the pitch the Bayern players wore T-shirts with the motto “We're with you! You're going to make it again!” All the players wore Badstuber's number 28 prior to kick-off, as did the subs and the staff.

Darmstadt without quintet

SV Darmstadt will be without five players due to suspension in the match away to FC Bayern next Saturday. Captain Aytac Sulu, Marcel Heller, Peter Niemeyer, Konstantin Rausch and Jérôme Gondorf were all booked for the fifth time this term in the 2-1 defeat against Leverkusen and now serve a one-match ban. Curiously enough, no fewer than four of them saw yellow cards shortly before the final whistle. “We'll somehow scrape up eleven players,” commented former FCB forward Sandro Wagner with regard to the match at the Allianz Arena.
