The match officials for the Champions League Round of 16 first leg meeting between Juventus and FC Bayern are from England. Martin Atkinson, a 44-year-old policeman, has been appointed as referee for Tuesday's showdown. The German record champions have only good memories of Atkinson. In October 2010 he oversaw the 3-2 home win against Cluj before taking charge of the 1-0 victory away to Lille in October 2012. Atkinson was the man with the whistle in last season's Champions League quarter-final return against Porto, a fulminating 6-1 victory by which Bayern overturned a 3-1 deficit.
Quote of the day
“It's annoying that Bayern always score the Goal of the Month against us.” (Darmstadt coach Dirk Schuster on Thomas Müller's second goal)
