One FCB star hit the headlines on Friday night with a lightning-quick goal, but another was forced to the sidelines. fcbayern.de rounds up the international action featuring Munich men:
Brazil 2-2 Uruguay
1-0 Douglas Costa (1), 2-0 Renato Augusto (26), 2-1 Edinson Cavani (31), 2-2 Luis Suarez (48)
Costa needed only 39 seconds to hand Brazil the lead at the Pernambuco World Cup Arena in Recife, applying a close-range finish to a Willian cross. The FCB man played the full 90 minutes.
In South American World Cup qualifying, the draw means A Seleção have eight points and lie third in the standings behind Uruguay (10) and Ecuador (13), although Paraguay and Argentina are level on points with the Brazilians. The top four qualify directly for the 2018 finals in Russia.
Netherlands 2-3 France
0-1 Antoine Griezmann (6), 0-2 Olivier Giroud (13), 1-2 Luuk de Jong (47), 2-2 Ibrahim Afellay (86), 2-3 Blaise Matuidi (87)
Euro 2016 hosts France produced an impressive display, although Kingsley Coman spent the match as an unused sub. The most moving moment was a minute’s tribute to Dutch superstar Johan Cruyff, who died on Thursday. The game was halted in the 14th minute for the warm round of applause from the players, officials and fans in memory of Cruyff, who wore the number 14 throughout his playing career.
Lay-off for Benatia
Morocco travel to face Cape Verde in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on Saturday night but Mehdi Benatia will not be able to represent his country. The centre-back misses the match with a thigh injury, the Moroccan association has announced, although he has not been ruled out of his country’s next fixture on 29 March.
