Four days after the exhausting cup clash with Bremen, FC Bayern had to put in a shift against Hertha Berlin too. But it paid off. “We've booked the three points and taken a giant stride,” summarised Mario Götze after the 2-0 away victory, while an equally satisfied Pep Guardiola is hoping for a decisive victory next weekend.
Reaction to Hertha v Bayern
Pep Guardiola: “The match was awkward for us, the first half was very difficult. Arturo's opener was very important for our confidence, for our play. We didn't allow any chances after that. Now it's up to us. We need one more victory. I hope we'll turn in a strong display next week and wrap up the championship title!”
Mario Götze: “Our coach switched many things around at half-time. We know we didn't play so well in the first half. But it isn't so easy against deep-lying opponents, especially away from home. Nevertheless we've booked the three points and taken a giant stride!”
Pal Dardai (Hertha BSC coach): “We could have taken more from the game today. We were the better team in the first half, we were more aggressive and recovered possession many times. We wanted to keep it up in the second half, but the goal came a little too early. We didn't manage to apply pressure any longer. The match was over after the second goal.”
Mitchell Weiser (Hertha BSC): “We lacked a little bit of luck today. We played very, very well especially in the first half and had three or four good moves. With a little more determination we could have scored.”
