Robben out of cup final

Arjen Robben has lost his battle to be fit in time for the DFB Cup final between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund at Berlin Olympiastadion on 21 May. There had been a glimmer of hope that the Dutch ace might recover in time, but he has “no chance,” Pep Guardiola announced on Friday in response to media questions. Robben is still only capable of a restricted training programme due to persistent groin problems. He last played in early March, coincidentally against Borussia Dortmund.

Supercup on 14 August in Dortmund

FCB will play the last match of the current season against BVB, and the teams will meet again in the traditional curtain-raiser to the new campaign. The German Football League (DFL) has scheduled the annual Supercup for 20:30 CET on 14 August at the black-and-yellows’ home Signal-Iduna Park. It is the fourth duel between the pair since the Supercup in its current form was reintroduced in 2010. FC Bayern won 2-1 in Munich in 2012, with BVB twice winning on their home field, 4-2 in 2013 and 2-0 in 2014.

The host nation open the tournament against Romania on 10 June, with further group games against Albania on 15 June and Switzerland on 19 June.
