FC Bayern will officially open the 2016/17 domestic league campaign at home to Werder Bremen, the German Football League (DFL) revealed on Wednesday at the long-awaited official announcement of the match schedule for the 54th Bundesliga season. The opening match in Munich takes place on Friday 26 August at 20:30 CET.
New Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti will make his away debut against FC Schalke on 9 to 11 September before enjoying home advantage twice in a row against FC Ingolstadt on 16 to 18 September and Hertha Berlin on 20 or 21 September. The cracker away to runners-up Borussia Dortmund will be staged on Matchday 11 on 18 to 20 November.
The Munich men will contest their last match of the year at home against RB Leipzig on 20 to 21 December. The fans will also be able to support the Reds at the Allianz Arena in their last Bundesliga match of the season: Bayern take on SC Freiburg on Matchday 34 on 20 May 2017.
At the present time, only few fixtures are finalised. As always, the other games are definitely scheduled in the course of the season, mainly taking into account Champions League and Europa League commitments. The German Football League (DFL) will shortly announce the exact dates for the first few fixtures.
