Sebastian Rode is leaving FC Bayern to join Borussia Dortmund. After completing the obligatory medical on Monday the midfielder signed a contract keeping him in Dortmund until 2020. Rode moves to the Ruhr Valley for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old midfielder, whose contract with Munich was valid until June 2018, wore the Bayern shirt for two years, winning the Bundesliga both in 2015 and 2016 and the DFB Cup in 2016. The Germany U-21 international joined Bayern from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2014 and has made 46 Bundesliga appearances for the German record champions, scoring three goals. In addition he made 11 Champions League appearances (one goal) and eight DFB Cup appearances.

"Sebastian Rode asked us to release him from his contract because he thinks he has a chance to play on a regular basis in Dortmund," said FC Bayern München AG chairmanKarl-Heinz Rummenigge. "We've granted this request. FC Bayern thanks Sebastian Rode for his commitment and his strong character in the last two years. We wish him all the best for the future."
