Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joins Southampton
The start of pre-season on Monday also brought a change to the FC Bayern squad: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has left the German record champions and joined Premier League outfit Southampton.
Hojbjerg came to Munich from Brondby in the summer of 2012. The initial plan to field him in the U-19s was quickly discarded, and the midfielder soon became an influential member of the FC Bayern reserves. He made his debut as a pro in April 2013. He is the youngest-ever Bayern player to contest a Bundesliga fixture at 17 years and 251 days.
The 20-year-old, who was out on loan to FC Augsburg from January to June 2015 and to Schalke in the 2015/16 season, made 25 appearances for FC Bayern in competitive fixtures in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Champions League. The Denmark international, whose contract was valid until June 2018, aims to take the next step in his career in England.
