One day after the EURO 2016 final the FC Bayern stars resumed training in preparation for the new season. With the air temperature soaring, 19 players reported back to the Säbener Strasse HQ to work out under Carlo Ancelotti on Monday afternoon. Bayern's 11 EURO contenders and Copa America winner Arturo Vidal missed the session. Douglas Costa remained in the performance centre due to a thigh injury.
Ancelotti stepped onto the pitch in shorts and a red cap at 16.34 pm. Before training began the new boss posed for a group photo alongside his staff to the applause of the expectant crowd. The players leaped over hurdles to warm up before completing passing exercises and positional rondo drills. After 65 minutes the Italian had seen enough, blowing the final whistle.
Ancelotti, who mostly observed the players and let his assistants take charge, was delighted that Holger Badstuber and Arjen Robben were out on the training ground again. Both had missed large parts of the second half of last season with injuries. The duo completed the first squad session after the summer break without any obvious problems. Tuesday's session will be closed to the public before fans are welcome again on Thursday at 10.30 am.
