Jérôme Boateng was awarded a longer holiday, but on Sunday evening he joined FC Bayern by his own choice. “I wanted to come here. And the docs can have a look at my thigh too,” said the Germany international, who recharged his batteries on Mykonos and on the west coast of the USA (San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego).
After sustaining a ruptured muscle bundle in his right thigh in the EURO semi-finals the 27-year-old is able to work out on the bike. The centre-back cannot wait to resume running. “I've benefited from my vacation, physically and mentally,” commented Boateng, who aims to be “fresh and fit” for the new season.
Reds prepare for Real
On Monday morning Philipp Lahm, Xabi Alonso & Co exercised at New Jersey's Red Bull Arena, home ground of MLS outfit New York Red Bulls. Two days before the Audi Football Summit against Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti's troops worked up a sweat completing passing exercises and positional rondo drills. Besides Boateng only Holger Badstuber, who reported for an individual session in the fitness room at the team hotel, and Tim Häußler from the reserves, who sustained a knock to his thigh, missed the session.
