Bayern will contest an all-Bavaria derby in the second round of this season’s DFB Cup after the holders were handed a home tie against Bundesliga rivals and neighbours FC Augsburg in Friday evening’s draw. “Augsburg will be tough to beat. But make no mistake about it, we’re at home so it’s a game we have to win,” Mats Hummels declared following the draw.
The meeting will be the third between the teams in the cup in the last four years. FCB previously met FCA twice in the Round of 16, with the record cup winners prevailing 2-0 on both occasions. It is the fourth clash between the pair in the competition’s history, with the Reds posting a clear-cut 6-0 triumph back in 1983/84.
Augsburg beat FV Ravensburg 2-0 in the first round, with FCB winning 5-0 away to Carl Zeiss Jena. The second round ties will be played on 25 and 26 October.
