Holders FC Bayern have taken the first step towards defending their DFB Cup title thanks to Friday evening's first round victory away to Carl Zeiss Jena, but Carlo Ancelotti and his men will have to wait a week before discovering the identity of their next opponents in the competition. The draw for the second round will be made at 22.45 CET on 26 August during the ARD Sportschau Club show after the official Bundesliga season opener between FCB and Werder Bremen. Germany men's national team manager Oliver Bierhoff will make the draw, with the ties to be played on 25 and 26 October.
