Supercup success makes Reds joint record winners

FC Bayern sealed their first title of the new season with the 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, which means they are now joint record Supercup winners. The Bavarians celebrated their fifth triumph in the competition, the same number as Borussia Dortmund. Werder Bremen come in third on three Supercup titles.

FCB trio now boast the most Supercup appearances

Philipp Lahm, Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski all made their sixth appearance in a Supercup final, setting a new record. Before Sunday evening they were level with Uli Borowka, Oliver Reck and Mirko Votava from Bremen on five appearances.

Impressive viewing figures

 

The Supercup final between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern was a hit for state broadcaster ZDF. 7.22 million viewers saw the German record champions wrap up their first title this season, a 22.4 percent market share for ZDF despite live coverage of the Olympic Games. The happenings in Rio, broadcast on ARD, only attracted 4.43 million viewers (14.5 percent) to artistic gymnastics at prime time and subsequently 4.07 million (13.7 percent) to golf.
