Five games, five wins. 20 goals scored, none conceded, including five against Rostov on Tuesday night. Bayern have every reason to be happy with their start to the season, and that continued on Wednesday afternoon. Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Müller, Jérôme Boateng and Co sat around a beer table, their footballers’ legs in Lederhosen and a Weißbier in their hands. “Cheers” was the order of the day as Bayern’s sponsor Paulaner brought the team together for the annual photo shoot.
Swapping jerseys, shorts and football books for traditional shirts, Lederhosen and Bavarian shoes was once again a welcome event for the players. Especially for the new signings, who had to be closely examined by the old experts as they were measured for their new Lederhosen. “Some of them find this very unusual and strange. I won't name names,” grinned Philipp Lahm, “but it’s part of the job and they will get used to the Lederhosen. They'll see how good it is at the Oktoberfest.”
Ancelotti and Sanches in Lederhosen
Carlo Ancelotti has already had that experience because the FCB coach was at the Oktoberfest a few years ago, as he explained to FC Bayern TV. “It was unforgettable,” he remembers. Now the Italian is putting on Lederhosen for the first time and said: “It's a new experience and it's fun. It feels good.” Renato Sanches feels similar as he immerses himself in Bavarian culture for the first time. “I really like it,” said the Portugal international.
New signing Mats Hummels had no reservations whatsoever with the outfit. Why? Because the central defender grew up in Munich. “Everything is fine. You can't complain,” assessed Lahm appreciatively before adding, “I’m excited to see his performance at the Oktoberfest.” The annual celebration will be opened at 12 noon on Saturday. Ancelotti hopes the beer can give his players “even more energy”. Cheers!
