FCB buoyed by strong record before CL opener
On Tuesday evening FC Bayern and FC Rostov cross swords for the first time ever. The Bavarians boast an impressive record against Russian teams: ten victories, six draws and two defeats, with 38 goals scored and 15 conceded. The Russian runners-up will make their debut at the Allianz Arena, and they have never encountered a German side in a competitive fixture.
Rostov expert Ancelotti
Only Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti has encountered the South Russian club before. In 1999 he prevailed with Juventus over Rostov, winning by 4-0 and 5-1 scorelines in the semi-finals of the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Dmitry Kirichenko, who has been Rostov's interim coach since August, featured for the Russians as a player back then.
Bayern's impressive opening streak
FC Bayern have won all of their last 12 Champions League opening matches, a record in the competition! The last time FC Bayern failed to win their first group match was 14 years ago, when they lost 3-2 at home against Deportivo La Coruna.
FCB about to set new record
FC Bayern have won all of their last 12 Champions League home matches, equalling the record set by Manchester United between 2006 and 2008. A victory over Champions League debutants Rostov on Tuesday evening would hand FC Bayern a new record.
Taylor in charge
Anthony Taylor from England will be the man with the whistle for the match between FC Bayern and FC Rostov. The 37-year-old match official has overseen two matches in Europe's elite club competition so far. He has never refereed a fixture involving the German record champions before.
