Arturo Vidal and his Chile team-mates picked up a potentially valuable point in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday evening (local time) with a goalless draw against Bolivia. The result means the Copa America holders cut the gap to fourth place in the standings but failed to dislodge Columbia from the final direct qualifying position. Vidal played the full 90 minutes of the scoreless stalemate which leaves Chile in seventh on 11 points. The top four in the ten-strong South American group are confirmed starters at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, with the nation finishing fifth entering a play-off double header against the winners of the Oceania qualifying competition. Chile’s next match is away to Ecuador on 3 October.
