For years the pitch at the Allianz Arena has been in a superb condition, but in recent weeks the turf has not looked at its best. Analysis has now shown that the damage from a fungal infection is now so bad that the surface needs to be completely replaced. That is the only way to ensure that the grass will be back to its usual first-class appearance again. A decision has been taken to move away from hybrid grass and now use natural grass.
The old turf will be torn up on Monday and Tuesday of next week and the undersoil will be set up. The new pitch will be rolled out on Wednesday and Thursday. The new surface will then be measured and marked out on Friday so that Bayern will be able to play on a fresh new pitch for their next home game against Köln on 1st October (15:30 CEST).
