FC Bayern set a new record in the very first match of the 2016/17 Champions League campaign: Tuesday's clear-cut 5-0 victory over FC Rostov was Bayern's 13th consecutive home victory in Europe's premier club competition and the biggest victory for a German side in a CL opening match. The Munich men are now sole record-holders ahead of Manchester United, who won 12 home matches in the competition between 2006 in 2008. The Bavarians won their 13th opening match on the bounce: another best mark.

Atlético win in Eindhoven

Atlético also made a successful start to the Champions League group phase on Tuesday evening. Last year's finalists beat PSV Eindhoven 1-0, now equal on points with leaders Bayern. The capacity crowd at the Philips Stadion saw Saul Niguez score the match-winner for the Spaniards shortly before the break. The visitors were the better team for the most part of the contest, a new edition of last season's Round of 16 tie. Eindhoven had a guilt-edged chance to level the scores in the dying stages of the first half, but Atlético netminder Jan Oblak saved Andres Guardado's penalty.
