There is good news for Mats Hummels two days before Bayern face Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. The centre back took part in training again on Monday morning despite being substituted after suffering a blow to his right knee in saturdy’s 1-0 win over Hamburg. Two players are definitely out of the match at the Vicente Calderón on Wednesday: Douglas Costa and Holger Badstuber.
Marciniak to referee in Madrid
Polish referee Szymon Marciniak has been appointed to the Atlético-Bayern game on Wednesday. The 35-year-old, who refereed at the EUROs in france this summer, will take charge of his nineth Champions League match and his second involving FCB. Marciniak previously refereed Bayern’s quarter-final tie against Benfica at the Allianz Arena last April (1-0).
Opening win in basketball
FCB’s bastketball players have gotten off to the perfect start to their new season. In coach Sasa Djordjevic’s first game in charge, Bayern won 83-69 at Oldenburg. “We are still at the beginning of the process. We can be happy with some things but not with everything,” said the new FCB coach. Next Friday (30th September, 19:00 CEST), Bayern play their first home game of the season against Würzburg.
