Rostov and PSV share the spoils

In the parallel fixture in Group D, Champions League newcomers FC Rostov scored their first goals in Europe's elite club competition but it was still not enough for a maiden victory as the Russians' meeting with PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday evening eneded in a 2-2 draw, a fair reflection of the play on the night. Dmitriy Poloz (pictured) twice gave the home side the lead on eight and 37 minutes, but Davy Pröpper (14) and Luuk de Jong (45+2) levelled it up. The Dutch giants were poised to claim the three points just before the hour mark but Pröpper missed from the penalty spot. Both teams finished with a first point of the current campaign.

Milestone for Boateng
The Atlético clash was a special occasion for Jérôme Boateng as the encounter at Estadio Vicente Calderón was the 50th Champions League appearance for Germany's Player of the Season. The defender has three goals to his name in the competition.

VIP guests
The Champions League meeting between FC Bayern and Atlético was watched by two high-ranking individuals. German Ambassador to Spain Peter Tempel and Spain national team coach Julen Lopetegui took their seats in the President’s Box to enjoy the top-class European action.
