Dmitriy Poloz (pictured) twice gave the home side the lead on eight and 37 minutes, but Davy Pröpper (14) and Luuk de Jong (45+2) levelled it up. The Dutch giants were poised to claim the three points just before the hour mark but Pröpper missed from the penalty spot. Both teams finished with a first point of the current campaign.

The Atlético clash was a special occasion for Jérôme Boateng as the encounter at Estadio Vicente Calderón was the 50th Champions League appearance for Germany's Player of the Season. The defender has three goals to his name in the competition.
