Three FC Bayern players represented their countries in World Cup qualifiers on Thursday evening. fcbayern.com reviews the matches:
David Alaba
David Alaba and his Austrian team-mates were held to a draw by Wales in Group D after the match at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion ended in a 2-2 stalemate. Joe Allen and Kevin Wimmer, who put through his own goal, twice handed the visitors the lead, but Marko Arnautovic cancelled out both the visitors' goals. Alaba, who played the full 90 minutes, set up the first equaliser. Austria, Wales and Serbia are now level on four points each at the top of Group D.
Thiago
Spain drew their match away to Italy despite a strong display. Vitolo put La Roja in the lead after half-time, but Daniele De Rossi scored the equaliser from the spot with ten minutes to go. Spain head coach Julen Lopetegui brought on Thiago for the closing stages. Both sides are now on four points in Group G behind leaders Albania on six. Spain cross swords with the table-toppers on Sunday.
Arturo Vidal
Copa America holders Chile struggled in the notorious Ecuadorian mountains. Arturo Vidal, who played the full 90 minutes, and his Chilean team-mates were beaten 3-0 by Ecuador in the 2,800-metre altitude of Quito. Antonio Valencia, Cristian Ramírez and Felipe Caicedo scored for the dominant hosts. The result means Ecuador advance to third place in the South American group, whereas Chile remain stuck in seventh.
