Ancelotti: The whole team played well

FC Bayern are through to the last sixteen! The German record champions were upbeat after the 3-1 victory over FC Augsburg in Wednesday's all-Bavarian derby. "We were by far the better team, especially in the first half," commented Philipp Lahm, who scored the opener early into the contest. However, the captain saw room for improvement in one area.

Reation to Bayern v Augsburg

Carlo Ancelotti: "The match wasn't decided until the end. We failed to close it out, but overall we controlled the game. We played very well in the first half. I have a great squad. The players are fit, and I want them all to be motivated. All of them did a good job. I'm delighted for Holger Badstuber, he's important for the team."

Philipp Lahm: "We were by far the better team, especially in the first half, when we did well. We were absolutely in control after the second goal, but eased off. That mustn't happen. It was tight at the end, there's always the risk something might happen. We have to do better in the future."

Holger Badstuber: "It's pure emotion. I enjoy being welcomed like this. I'm very happy. Of course you absorb the atmosphere. It gives you goosebumps, you don't forget it."

Dirk Schuster (Augsburg coach): "We had hope after our goal. We wanted to close down the space. We did that quite well in the first half. The goals we conceded were sloppy."

Marwin Hitz (Augsburg keeper): "We didn't have a shot on goal after pulling one back. Perhaps a bit more would have been possible. There are a few things we can learn for Saturday and where we can improve."
