After three days off FC Bayern have started their preparations for the top Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund. Ten FCB pros, including Renato Sanches who has returned from national team duty, worked out under Carlo Ancelotti on Monday afternoon. Jérôme Boateng, who sustained an inflamed knee in the home match against Hoffenheim nine days ago, resumed the squad programme.
"We need a top performance, and the players know it," Philipp Lahm said in an interview with FCB's Platinum Partner Goodyear in the build-up to Saturday's showdown. Especially in the Champions League Borussia have played football "at the highest level. We saw in the Supercup how tight it is," added the FC Bayern skipper, referring to the final in mid-August, when Bayern won 2-0 despite the hosts' energetic pressing game.
The German record champions currently top the Bundesliga table ahead of RB Leipzig who are equal on points. Borussia lie fifth, six points short, "but it can rapidly change. If we lose it's only three points," Lahm cautioned. The Bavarians warmed up for the encounter with last season's Bundesliga runners-up with power play exercises and a variety of positional rondo drills.
