Vidal the 'best of the best' in Chile

Two accolades at once for Arturo Vidal! For the first time the FC Bayern midfielder has been named Sports Personality of the Year and Footballer of the Year in Chile. The 29-year-old has therefore won the two most important individual awards for sports personalities in his home country.

Vidal won the traditional poll for the Footballer of the Year award conducted among Chilean sports journalists (Círculo de Periodistas Deportivos de Chile) ahead of Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez, succeeding Claudio Bravo who won the poll last year.

King Arturo was also named Chilean Sports Personality of the Year at the official ceremony in Santiago de Chile on Tuesday. Vidal missed the event due to the preparation for FC Bayern's top Bundesliga clash with RB Leipzig. The combative midfielder topped the rankings ahead of 60 further winners in their respective disciplines, named "the best of the best" among Chilean sports personalities.

Vidal won the German double with FC Bayern for the first time in 2016. He also played a key role in Chile's victory in the Copa America Centenario. La Roja beat Argentina 4-2 on penalties in the final, defending their continental title.
