FC Bayern München is mourning the death of club member #1 – Josef Binder. He had been an FC Bayern member for over 80 years, since 1st July 1936, and was personally honoured at the end of the November by then president Karl Hopfner for his loyalty to the club. Binder passed away just before Christmas at the age of 96.

Bayern president Uli Hoeneß: "Josef Binder was an unbelievable member of FC Bayern for 80 years. He has experienced a great part of the history of our club at first hand. The turmoil of war with then president Kurt Landauer, promotion to the Bundesliga and the first European Cup win in the 60s, many Bundesliga title wins after that, DFB Cup and European wins, and the development of FC Bayern into the greatest sports club in the world. Josef Binder was himself a part of the history of FC Bayern. We are therefore even more saddened by his passing and will mourn him with all fans and members of FC Bayern.”

Binder previously wore FC Bayern colours himself and played in the youth team before the Second World War as well as in the second team after the war and his captivity. “We will always honour the memory of Josef Binder,” said Hoeneß.
