Five reasons to get excited

After 29 days without football (apart from friendlies), FC Bayern will finally kick off the second half of the season on Friday (20:30CET) at SC Freiburg. What else do we have to look forward to in the coming months? fcbayern.com has five answers:

Great games! Under the lights, anthems, goose bumps – we don’t have to wait long for that, with the first leg of the Reds’ Champions League tie against Arsenal coming on 15th February (second leg in London on 7th March). And after that, if things go to plan, there’ll be even more Champions League crackers to come! Back in the Bundesliga, there is the always highly-anticipated Klassiker clash with Borussia Dortmund on 8th April. And not to mention the DFB Cup, where we’re hoping for even more great footballing evenings, starting with the round-of-16 match against VfL Wolfsburg on 8th February.

Goals, goals and goals! Bayern had the most potent attack in the first half of the season. The record champions netted 38 times, with 12 of them coming from Robert Lewandowski alone, who currently sits third on the Bundesliga top-scorers list. And Thomas Müller will also want to start adding more to that total.

Comebacks! We’ve had to wait a while, but Jérôme Boateng, Thiago and Kingsley Coman will all soon be back in action on the pitch for the Reds. Coman is expected to be the first of the trio to return, and that could even come on Friday.

Midweek clashes! The Bundesliga restart is getting closer and the first round of midweek fixtures is also just around the corner. From mid-February to early-March, Bayern have three weeks of double fixtures. What more could a football fan want?

Titles! Of course, we’re also hoping for silverware at the end of this campaign with the Bundesliga Meisterschale, the DFB Cup and also “Ol’ Big Ears” – the Champions League trophy – all up for grabs for Bayern. There is even an unofficial title to be won in just the first game after the league restart: The Herbstmeisterschaft, or Autumn Championship for the leaders at the halfway stage of the Bundesliga campaign. The game against Freiburg on Friday will official mark the midway point of the league season, and Bayern will have faced every opponent at least once.
