Frosty final preparations

It was about wrapping up warm on Tuesday morning at Säbener Straße as Carlo Ancelotti and his team took to the training pitch in temperatures of -7 degrees Celsius. However, the Italian did have Javi Martinez and Sven Ulreich back to bolster the numbers after training on their own the previous day. It meant only Arturo Vidal (ribs) and long-term injuries Jerome Boateng and Thiago were missing with just three days to go until the season recommences at SC Freiburg.

Louis van Gaal says Servus

After 30 years on the touchline, Louis van Gaal has announced his retirement in an interview with newspaper De Telegraaf. “I do not think I shall be returning to the dugout,” explained the 65-year-old. Van Gaal was FC Bayern coach from 2009 to 2011 and won the double in 2009/10. He also promoted young talent during his spell in charge, bringing Thomas Müller, Holger Badstuber and David Alaba into the first team. Of course, his speech on the balcony of the town hall during the 2010 title celebrations will never be forgotten.
