Wednesday in Doha
Training, physiotherapy, meetings, media and sponsor events – during nine intensive days in Doha, the Bayern squad will be looking to lay the foundations for a successful second half to their season. fcbayern.com brings you all the ins and outs of each day in the desert emirate:
Day 2: Wednesday 4th January
NUMBER OF THE DAY: It was 24 degrees when the Bayern players worked out for the first time in Doha. Suncream was crucial in the morning, whereas the sun will set during the afternoon session.
MESSAGE OF THE DAY: Carlo Ancelotti wished his long-standing assistant Paul Clement "good luck." Clement has been named manager of Premier League side Swansea City. "I hope he'll be a success. He was a really good assistant, a friend." Hermann Gerland and Davide Ancelotti will take over Clement's duties at FC Bayern. "We'll manage. Hermann in particular will be more involved."
TRIO OF THE DAY: Three squad members did not report to the training ground on the first day. Kingsley Coman continued his rehab programme in the hotel, Javi Martínez was sidelined with a cold and Sven Ulreich took a breather due to slight muscular problems.
WINNER OF THE DAY: Joshua Kimmich won a crossbar challenge against Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels. The latter hit the bar the least often and accepted the ensuing penalty, braving shots at his behind.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Absolute rubbish." (Carlo Ancelotti on rumours of a transfer for Arturo Vidal)
