Bayern were already unpacking the new ‘Finale Cardiff’ Champions League ball during their recovery training on Sunday, but today their preparations for the last 16 showdown against Arsenal (Wednesday, 20:45 CET, live text and Webradio commentary) really got going. In temperatures around freezing point, Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm & co got a sweat on – the countdown is well and truly on!
“The win in Ingolstadt was very important. Now we’re focused on the Champions League!” said Robert Lewandowski, who’s awaiting the clash against the English club with excitement. “Everyone’s waiting for this game. It will be a big challenge for us. I hope we can deliver a good performance and play really well here in Munich,” he added.
“That would be a good night“
Of course, the Bavarians have great respect for one of the top teams in the Premier League. “Arsenal have very good footballers. They know what it means to play in the Champions League,” commented Lewandowski. “We need to concentrate on ourselves. If we play our game then Arsenal probably won’t get many chances. But we must play well from back to front.”
Lewandowski and his teammates also know how they can give their fans a wonderful Champions League night. The plan, according to the Pole, is: “ideally to score at least one goal and not concede any. That would be a good night for us.” And for the Bayern fans too!
