Bayern are through to the last eight of the DFB German Cup for the tenth time in a row following a tight but merited victory over VfL Wolfsburg, sparking delight in the Reds' camp. "It was a tough game, but also the kind of game we need," said comeback kid Thiago. Carlo Ancelotti offered a neat summary of the evening: "It's very important that we're through to the quarter-finals."
Reaction to Bayern v Wolfsburg
Carlo Ancelotti: "I'm pleased with the first 80 minutes because we had the game fully under control. All that was missing was a second goal. We had problems in the last ten minutes when Wolfsburg staged a last rally. It's very important that we're through to the quarter-finals."
Uli Hoeneß: "You can't fault the team's determination, although you can see the players don't have total confidence at the moment. You can't just flick a switch and turn it back on. The last ten minutes were fairly nerve-wracking, but overall we deserved the win. We have lots of games coming up now and I think it'll get better.“
Thiago: "It was a tough game, but also the kind of game we need with plenty of time on the ball. At the end of the day we've won.“
Valérien Ismaël (VfL Wolfsburg coach): "Congratulations to FC Bayern on advancing to the next round. We turned in a very good display, we were disciplined. We conceded five goals here just two months ago, so it was clear we'd play with caution. At half-time we said we'd better stay calm, and that there's still a chance. We almost earned a reward at the end. We can build on this performance.”
