Heiko Vogel has stepped down as FC Bayern München reserves coach in the Regionalliga with immediate effect. The 41-year-old informed Hermann Gerland, the new head of FC Bayern's youth academy, about his decision on Monday 20 March. Vogel bade farewell to the team this morning.
"I'd like to thank FC Bayern for the good cooperation over many years and the fans for their support. But I think this step is the right decision for everyone involved in the light of recent developments. The most recent Regionalliga results are considerably different from those in the first half of the season. I hope for the club the young players manage to clear their minds and play to the best of their ability again," commented Vogel.
Danny Schwarz succeeds Vogel as interim coach until the end of the season. The 41-year-old former pro (122 Bundesliga appearances) was previously FCB U-16 coach. Schwarz's former assistant Stefan Buck (36) replaces him for the next few months.
