Boateng and Martinez on the pitch - Alaba trains alone

The personnel situation for FC Bayern is beginning to ease just three days out from the DFB Cup semi-final against Borussia Dortmund. Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez both took part in the team’s preparations for the game against BVB after recovering from recent minor injuries. The centre-backs took part in the majority of the public training session on Sunday morning with the players who did not feature or only played briefly against Mainz on Saturday.

The duo are expected to take part in full team training again on Monday and should be ready for selection in the Cup Klassiker on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena. Coach Carlo Ancelotti was without both defenders for the 2-2 draw with Mainz so as not to risk them for the semi-final clash.

Alaba working alone

Things are also looking positive for David Alaba, who had to be substituted early on against Mainz with a capsular strain in his left knee. The left-back was working alone in the performance centre on Sunday and is expected to increase his workload further on Monday. The Austria international should re-join the team fully on Tuesday for the final preparations ahead of the game. “It’s not such a big problem,” Ancelotti announced after the Mainz match.

“Jerome, Javi and David will all be back on Wednesday. Lewy and I will also take it easy for a few days. I don’t think we’ve got any major physical problems,” explained Mats Hummels. However, FC Bayern will continue to be without No. 1 goalkeeper Manuel Neuer because of a fractured foot. Sven Ulreich will once again deputise in net.
