It’s just a few hours until Bayern and Dortmund meet for the third time this season. It’s one win apiece after the two Bundesliga meetings with Borussia winning 1-0 at home and FCB triumphing 4-1 in the return fixture two and a half weeks ago. fcbayern.com has put together seven facts ahead of this evening’s DFB Cup semi-final:
#1 - Bayern and Dortmund have dominated German football in recent years. In 19 of the last 23 seasons the name on the league trophy has either been FCB (14 times) or BVB (5). And in the DFB Cup, at least one of the two sides has reached the final for the last five years. Bayern have lifted the cup three times during that time, with Borussia winning it once.
#2 - Bayern and Dortmund are meeting in the competition for a record sixth year in a row, but it’s only the second meeting in the semi-finals.
#3 - This is the eighth consecutive season in which FC Bayern have reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup, extending their record in the competition. The Reds have progressed to the final in five of those years.
#4 - Bayern are undefeated in the DFB Cup in almost five years, or 27 matches (including extra time). That’s another record!
#5 - Dortmund have been knocked out of the competition by Bayern more times than against any other opponent (six).
#6 - Borussia Dortmund have only failed to progress in one of their last 21 away games in the DFB Cup: their 1-0 quarter-final defeat in Munich in the 2012/13 season.
#7 - Manuel Gräfe is the referee for this evening. The 43 year-old sports scientist from Berlin has refereed 40 matches involving FC Bayern in his career, including three cup games all of which FCB won. Assisting him will be Guido Kleve and Markus Sinn, with Guido Winkmann as fourth official.
