The Bavarians wrapped up their fifth championship title in a row on Saturday evening, posting a strong display and a clear-cut 6-0 victory away to VfL Wolfsburg on Matchday 31. "This Bundesliga campaign has been a fantastic experience," commented Carlo Ancelotti after the final whistle. "It's extraordinary and incredible," said a delighted Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The chairman added: "I think we're absolutely deserved champions."
Reaction to the match and to the championship title
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "The championship is the most honest title, we said that before a ball was kicked. We've won it for the fifth time in a row, that's extraordinary and incredible. We wanted to have a good season, and we've had one this year. I think we're absolutely deserved champions."
Carlo Ancelotti: "This Bundesliga campaign has been a fantastic experience, the team did a very good job. I'd like to thank this fantastic club, I'm honoured to be here with these great players and the fans who've done a superb job of supporting us throughout the season. We've deserved the title, we've played attractive football. Now's the time to celebrate. Then we'll prepare for the next season as best we can."
Philipp Lahm: "The team turned in a great performance. It isn't a matter of course to seal the title with three matches to go, to wrap it up like this again and again. Regarding the opening stages we've seen the real Wolfsburg. They were looking to apply pressure, they were disciplined in defence and lurked for counter-attacks. They also had one or two chances then. We scored at the right times. We played with verve, and that makes it difficult for anybody."
Mario Gomez (VfL Wolfsburg striker): "They were on fire as the game unfolded, and we surrendered. That's football, it goes on."
